Top Google searches in Kenya 2017-2018: Most Searched Trending Topics, Thing, word, People,Persons, words, things
Every end year Google announces some of the most searched topics in particular countries.
Google Trend released a list of the top most searched topics in Kenya in 2017.
The Kenya’s elections and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) results topped the list of the most trending searches in Kenya in 2017 .
The elections and IEBC attracted great public interest particularly so after the cancellation of the August 8 elections by the Supreme Court and the subsequent repeat elections held on October 26.
In the top 10 trending events in Kenya, the elections topped the list followed by the lecturers’ strike, which paralyzed learning in public universities.
This year, lectures have been on strike for five months. The strike was called off last week
Former president Mwai Kibaki topped the list of the most searched prominent people followed by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and the embattled IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba.
‘TIBIM’
Kenyans also searched for former NTV presenter Janet Kanini, former Cabinet Minister Nicholas Biwott, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery, former Nyeri governor Nderitu Gachagua and former IEBC ICT manager Chis Musando.
All of them captured national attention following their deaths this year
Others who made to the top 10 Google searches in Kenya were deposed Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe and prominent businessman Jimmy Wanjigi.
The phrase ‘Tibim’, a catchphrase popularized by the leaders of the opposition Nasa, which later morphed into a political slogan, was also among the trending searches.
The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) 2017 results, Nasa coalition, Jubilee party, the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) and the presidential results also made it into the top 10 most searched trends.
